BIRTHDAY WEEKEND!!!!!!!

This weekend was a blast!! First, it was my birthday on Saturday, so during the week Sharon and I went to the store to get food and stuff to prepare for the party at Islanders Bar on Friday. 8E Plus was playing there on Saturday as part of some benefit for a girl that liked pills and just happened to overdose. Surprised? Coincidence? No. So anyway, Sharon had the idea of having the party on Friday night instead. I knew she was smart. So anyway, Friday she spent a lot of the day getting things ready, making Jello Shots, sandwiches, buying a table cloth and setting it up at the bar, a surprise cherry cheesecake her son's girlfriend and herself decorated, and much more. The jello shots were Orange & Vodka (screwdrivers) and Lime & Tequila (margaritas). We got to the bar at about 9 and set everything up, and played pool, drank rum & coke, jello shots, and partied with all the friends that showed up (Sharon has a lot of pull on that kind of thing!) Eventually she pulled out the cheesecake she had delivered earlier in the day (and woke up early to start making, I found out later) and our friend Tempe cut it. Gotta say, the cheesecake was pretty superb, and was decorated just awesome. It was a real fun time. A tradition at Islanders is when there is a DJ playing and they find out it's your birthday, they announce it and throw a chair for you in the middle of the dance floor to get lap-dances. They really made me go out there, and so I guess I really let a few girls violate my personal space for a few mins. Lol. It was all in fun.

Saturday we woke up and took off for Pearland to walk around the flea market and look at all the cool, well, junk that everyone is selling. Those things are always a lot of fun if you've never been before. Afterwards to went to a place we had been to 2 or 3 weeks earlier where she had seen a nice sized rectangular table she liked and wanted to come back and buy. We found out the table had been marked down to $37 and decided to snag it, cool deal! It looks a little rough, but she wants to sand down some of the raised blemishes to make the surface more even, and paint the whole table black. She also has 6 chairs to paint black and reupholster... anyway, it's going to be a cool project. She's going to put pictures on the table top and clear-coat the top of the table again, it should look wicked!!

We got back from Pearland at about 4:30 and she had found out a friend of hers was going to be in town from San Marcos, so I went to a Birthday dinner with my folks and brother at 6:00. Johnny Carinos is always a favorite. I had sirloin steak, couple glasses of wine, and some cup of cappuchino with a shot of Baileys. I also got a couple presents, including a nice photo album from our family's trip to Big Bend National Park last summer. So we finished, I picked up something to drink later at the bar, and went back to the house. I even had time to take a nap, and her friend Leary showed up at about 8:30 or so! So we get to the bar about 10:30 or so and hang out with friends and listen to the band, it was a great time!! Someone tried to steal the bottle of rum I had bought earlier, and we scoured the whole bar until we found it! She said she didn't take it off our table, but Sharon pulled the brown bag from her and found the hairbrush she usually keeps in the bag!! Lets say, after Sharon was done Talking to her we think the girl might think twice before walking off with someone else's bottle of liquor. Her boyfriend also had something to say and tried to defend her, and after getting physical with Sharon, he got kicked out of the bar. We heard later he wasn't any smarter outside the bar than he was inside the bar, tried to violate some more peoples respect outside and got his ass kicked. Stomped. Thumped. you pick the word, he got "dealt with". Haha. Anyway, so we left and came back to the house and ended the night after she told the story to a few people.

Sunday, Sharon, Leary and I went and got breakfast tacos and went to look at the house that Sharon is trying to close on. We got back to the house, stayed a little while and put some ribs in the oven. Leary left and we went to Lowe's to pick up some black paint and wood putty and stuff to make sure we can start working on that table. I'm really looking forward to eating some ribs later on and getting some sleep for the work week to start tomorrow. That was my weekend, and it was good!!!

Dream I had last night

Well it's been a while since I blogged anything. I had a weird dream
last night though, and I need practice typing on my iPhone keyboard
anyway, so here we go.

Last night I dreamed my Uncle died. It was 2 or 3 days later and I was
thinking that someone should be going through his house and boxing up
his stuff and picking through it, seeing what they wanted to take and
what could be thrown away. That's what happened when my Dad died, his
sisters went to that house the day after the funeral (I was there too)
and we cleaned house in every sense of the word.

I remember in the dream that we weren't at his house though, we were
at my Mema's ( his mom ) and I woke up thinking that was weird. I was
thinking maybe no one packed up anything because they were just
planning on moving in, which doesn't make a lot of sense because she's
still alive.

My dad was in the dream, telling me that the guitars owned by my Uncle
were mine to keep. Then he told me he had given me a phone number
years back and had never given me the last 4 numbers for it. He had a
piece of paper that he wrote it on, and when I looked at the paper he
had given me it was an email that I wrote to someone else (complaining
about how their website didn't work, I almost think I remember sending
the email, it had 2003 on it) and had the number on it. I didn't look
at the number, but I wish I could use it if I could have remembered it.

I had some vague ideas about interpreting the events of that dream. I
thought maybe the different house part meant my own grandma would pass
away soon and won't be her house anymore. I don't like thinking like
that though, and I think that is a stupid interpretation.

I also figure that my Dad giving me my Uncle's guitars is a weird way
of saying sometimes it's more mature to give up the things we like the
most and let the next generation have at it, because they need the
encouragement and support more. My dad loved playing guitar, and I
remember he was very good at it. An immature mind might have wanted to
keep hold of the proverbial guitar collection as a symbol of
sentimentality. He obviously could have used them, and would have
enjoyed them anyway just because they were his brother's. He gave them
to me though, for my own sentimentality and usefulness. At least, in a
dream anyway.

My Dad… teaching me lessons from the grave.

Or maybe it was just a dream.

Life and Cosmetics

I was driving around tonight, thinking about how easy it is for people to look however they want on the outside. Not every aspect... but hair color comes in bottles, you can get a haircut, girls wear makeup. Wear a hat, put on some clothes from whatever stereotype you want to fit, and you're it. It almost doesn't even matter if you're fat, skinny, or what your nationality is and how you speak.

But then I asked myself, what is the purpose of this? Why do people have a need to look a certain way? The answer was pretty much in the question itself... because everyone has an expectation of it. Maybe people want an easy way to identify someone just by looking at them, instead of striking a conversation with them, considering that to be a waste of time. That sounds similiar to social networking sites, where you have the ability to create and join groups of similiar interests to instantly hook up with someone who is into the same things you are... or so it seems, on the outside. The problem pops up again of actually getting to talk to somebody in that group and finding out that the ONLY thing you have in common is you like the same band, author, or state.

The answer is deeper than that. People strive to look a certain way because everyone's opinion matters to them. That is the very nature of this topic. Why would someone want to dress up in the latest fashion, with the coolest hair style and the most expensive car... unless they planned on being seen, acknowledged, and all of the other "positive" attention they crave.

Why is this so important to people to change their lifestyle to fit the opinions of people who don't know you? I say it like this because in my opinion, people who do know you and do continue to have any kind of a relationship with you is doing so because they like who you are on the inside. Somehow, it has come to them talking to you for more than 30 seconds, enjoying the conversation/activity, and taking a chance at enjoying the next encounter. So, if there are 15 people that you talk to on a regular basis, why care about the other 99.999% of the people that you don't know, don't talk to, and aren't interested in seeing again once you walk out of Wal*Mart?

This kind of came about because of my own insecurities, I think. Sometimes I worry about what people will think of my hair, teeth, clothes...even if they don't like the way my deodarant smells I'm instantly subject to getting brushed off. The proverbial finger. My problem is I am interested in knowledge. I don't want to be ignorant, and I like talking with people, picking their brain about anything and everything, seeing what they find interesting and learning something new about that... in short, I enjoy learning about PEOPLE.

Thanks to the rest of the world for the ever popular opinion that people that don't fit their stereotype aren't worth anyone's time. Thanks a lot. Life goes on though.

i've got a bullet with a name on it

Well, it's about time again for a mini-update on the life that is my own.

-3 Day Weekend
First off I've got to say that last weekend was pretty amazing. Friday night I watched movies, hockey, and got wasted. Saturday morning when I woke up I rollerbladed until I couldn't breathe anymore...which didn't take as long as it used to. :( I threw the football around, played tennis, jumped in the pool, went for golf-cart rides, watched hockey, watched more movies, got wasted.. lol. Sunday pretty much was the same day, except I went home around... 4 or 5 or something, and washed some clothes and stuff. Boring.

This weekend is a 3-day weekend for me, hell yeah! I'm gonna do something...whatever it is. maybe just hang at the beach, or go fishing, or i don't know really...bbq outside and drink beer and play guitar? if i want to do it i will on my day off ;)

I think I'm going to start exercising more, or at least rollerblade. Its fun enough, and 2 or more people is great! Not to mention healthy :) especially if you're an aggressive flailer like me...

-Rivethead CD Release Party
If you do not know this group Rivethead, check out their myspace (myspace.com/rivethead) and listen to the songs.. they just released their 4th album, The 13th Step, and the CD release party is April 26, all the info should be on their myspace or their website, rivetheadonline.com. I really encourage any of you with adequate transportation (or rockin friends) to make the trek to Dallas for that.

-A Day In The Country
"A Day In The Country" is something sponsored by Houston 93Q radio (kkbq.com) where a few stars show up. I can't remember who all made ti the past couple years, Cross Canadian Ragweed was one of them and I think Billy Ray Cyrus one year? anyway, the oldies station is there too blaring loud tunes, and live country concerts back to back, expensive food and beer tents around every corner. Whee. I've been invited by a few people this year for the May 17 event but I don't think I want to go.. I've been slowly crawling away from Country in the past.. 8 years? and if the only country songs I know are 5 years old and older, I'm content. Bring on the heavy metal, classic rock, thrash metal, industrial (see Rivethead) and more. 93.7 and 94.5, with some 89.7, 103.7, 96.5, 106.9, and 107.5 thrown in for you Houston folk! ( I STILL miss ROCK 101 KLOL btw) But yeah i am still debating attending A Day In The Country.

-No More Caffeine
I decided to give up caffeine for a while..well really i'm trying to drink less soda because it really sucks...and water is really good for you...and so i decided also that i would give up caffeine as a kind of experiment on myself to see what all the effects will be, if i sleep better, wake up feeling better, whatever. combine that with a slightly rigorous semi exercise routine and i'll be doing fantastic.

you know, maybe while i'm drinking all this water i'l also rework on training my voice and sound great. maybe i just miss choir too much.

-Summer
i'm going to south padre island this summer on 4th of july weekend, it should be a blast. i don't know what all we're going to do (mom, dad, sis, bro, me) but it will be a blast. i'll also probably go to Schlitterbahn a couple times, and maybe just to New Braunfels to go tubing down the Comal river there. shit yeah! of course those won't be family, so friends are invited...probably. i'l have to ask the people i'm going with.

As for myself... I'm doing ok. work sucks yet again, and since my camaro took a shit on me i'm prepared to buy another car at the end of the month. what i'll get i have no clue, but it'll more than likely be am american 2-door, at least 2005 MAYBE 2004... but american. t-tops or convertible would be kickass for cruisin, which i plan on doing a lot of...

oh and if any of you use Google Reader to read RSS feeds, and you share articles of interest, why don't you send me your username so i can friend you and we can share feeds, i'm trying to get a broader range of streaming info.

anyway, well what are you guys up to? wheres the new blogs with the updates of whats going on in your lives?

i'm waiting... ;[

All long stories are worth telling. ;)

...if you know me at all, you know ALL my stories are damn long. ;)

Ok so, it's been in planning for a month or 2 at work for some of the guys to take a weekend trip to Dallas to see the Detroit Red Wings (NHL) come to town and play the Dallas Stars. Patrick is native-born Detroit and since he moved away, he hasn't gotten to see them play live since. They finally got tickets (I was uninvitedly excited for them) and planned it all out. Well, Bruce got sick and decided he didn't want to go anymore, and $50 later I've got a Golden ticket, I've got a Golden chance to..something, badass weekend.

Any way, fast forward 12 hours and my ass is waking up at 5:30 on a Saturday, meet up with Larry and Brent and we take off. It's note-worthy that we stopped at Centerville at Woody's Smokehouse, my all time favorite place to get beef jerky, highly recommended because they have every kind of beef jerky you want. Also, on the way up we listened to this MP3 CD I made for Larry containing every Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd album I had, which is most all the original Zeppelin and most of Pink Floyd. Any chance I get to listen to The Wall and DSOTM all the way through is an excellent occurrence, not to mention Houses Of The Holy, Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II, III, and IV... well you get the point. It was fantastic. On a different note, it reminded me of when I used to make the 3+ hour trip to see my Dad, since I would just pop in the (pretty much) same MP3 CD and listen all the way through. Hell yeah.

So yeah, we get there and meet up at predetermined destination number one, the House of Blues. I have no doubt that when that place is packed and has a nice band jammin', it is alright. But for a casual lunch spot, the menu was small, pricey, and the food wasn't really what I wanted for lunch. But whatever, after that we walked to the American Airlines Center where the Stars and the Mavericks play, and wow. There were so many green jerseys it was unbelievable. What was even cooler to me though, and perhaps a bit on the strange side, is the number of Red Wings jerseys I saw. I couldn't even count them, it was so many. My first hockey game was a great one. Pro hockey is sooo cool and coordinated, almost as awesome as watching Norm, Patrick and me play NHL '07 on PS2. haha. No, but really, the Stars played a great game, but in the end they couldn't overcome Detroit's defense and Hasek's awesome goal-tending, with a Red Wing victory of 3-0. I could head Detroit fans all the way to the car, and then all night long since I was hanging with Patrick and Larry... haha.

After that, we decided to go to Wizard's Sports Bar to get some food and catch the football games, and get wasted, so we decided to use my Google Maps program on my phone. Big mistake. Not only did it try to take us to an OLD Wizard's that isn't even there (not that we could find) but it tried to take us through construction zones too. Since we vowed not to talk about this anymore, I'll just say that after 50 minutes of frustratingly driving around, Patrick decided we need to go back to Mark's house, Norm's brother. Or to their practice house, we didn't care. So while we're on the way there, we drive by... Wizard's Sports Bar. It was like 20 miles away but it was still a Wizard's so we stop in and get some beer and food, play some pool and eat some grub. Larry and I leave and book a hotel room, and find a liquor store. By the time we get back to Wizard's and play some more pool, we're ready to go hang with the band.

Rivethead is a band out of Dallas consisting of (from their website) Steve on vocals, guitar, and keyboard (not to mention the sweet light shows he was setting up via MIDI), Kevin on guitar and backup vocals, Mark on drums, and Derek on bass and backup vocals. http://rivetheadonline.com or http://myspace.com/rivethead

We roll up to the practice house, which was pretty cool in itself. There were 90 rooms for (monthly) rent for bands to set up their equipment and just jam. I saw a few band stickers on some doors, some promo posters, heard some people sounding great while we made our way through a little mini-maze to Rivethead's room... opened the door, and it was everything I remember about hanging out with a band. LOUD and FUCKING BADASS. I've heard them over at Norm's and of course while I'm cruisin' down the road I'll throw their CD in, but listening to them in person, seeing how much fun they were having, seeing how great they get along... it was awesome. Kevin wasn't there but I got to meet the other 3, and a couple of their friends, and a couple of their wives/girlfriends too, I'm not entirely sure. lol. I recognized a few of the songs, recognized a couple songs from their new album that I can't wait to come out so I can finally get a copy for myself, and had lots of very cool conversations with everyone. I hope I can hang out with them again one day, and next time they come to Houston I'm there. You all should check out their myspace and listen to their remake of Sexy Back, the Timberlake hit. It's way more badass, thx. I also got to hear a version of Smack My Bitch Up, I hope they record that one and release it someday too. Anyway, but yeah what a great band, and great people.

My Dallas weekend was tons of fun, I didn't get to get as wasted as I wanted to.............................but I'm glad to be home now. Too bad I have to go to work tomorrow. haha. Later guys.

PS yeah yeah, so this is the same blog post that's going on my Myspace, my Facebook, and my real blog. File a lawsuit. Thaaaaaaaanks!
